The “Great Room” at Morton West’s new Freshman Academy functions as a gathering space for small and large groups of students and faculty. It will feature a learning stair for large group presentations and also function as a casual meeting space for collaboration and after school activities. Student circulation wraps around the edges of the great room and widens in certain areas to create smaller collaboration areas within the great room. Behind the learning stair on both the 1st and 2nd floors are activity rooms for student project workspace and elective courses. Classrooms and maker spaces outline the edges of the great room and borrow natural daylight from the North facing clerestory windows and skylights in the great room.
